SecretLeeds - Top Threads

Post by dsco »

Hi folks, I'm just putting together a list of top threads on SecretLeeds and wanted to get your input on it. What do you think are the most interesting/memorable threads we've had on SecretLeeds over the years? Where would you point a new SL user to in order to get started on the site and get a flavour for some of the things we've explored here on the site? Look forward to hearing your suggestions! Cheers, Duncan

Any of the pub ones for me - lost pubs and pubs closing in our time were both read end to end by me when I first found them.

Certainly the pubs threads but also the General Chat thread. The randomness of some of the topics and questions that have lead to brilliant information is what makes SL so much different from other "one trick pony" forums.
As an aside... The Leeds Station Southern Entrance thread is gold dust in waiting. Its all a bit new and sparkly at the moment [the building] but in years to come Leodian's photos are going to be up there with the likes of Leodis for their value.

Yep general chat for me also, failed boozers thread much less so.
Also agree with liits insomuch as Leodians photographs will be an invaluable historical asset in the future not just for the pictures themselves but he accurately records time place location etc unlike say Eric Jaquier for example who whilst rightly praised for the subject matter seemingly couldn't be bothered to document them in any meaningful way thus rendering them less historically useful, leading to the often heard cry from Leodis re his work "can you help?"

General Chat is a forum rather than a thread, i.e. it contains many threads on various subjects. I was looking for a list of top threads, i.e. discussions on a particular topic. However I take your point about General Chat being interesting and will think about a way to include it too.

I think that Famous Sons of Leeds and Famous Daughters of Leeds are quirky and interesting threads.

Famous Sons of Leeds
Famous Daughters of Leeds

Any more recent stuff we're missing do you think?

Can I recommend The Four Leeds Pubs of the Apocalypse thread started by me in November 2009. Even though I say so myself, it is the most amusing topic ever to appear on this site. Thankyeew
