I'm not a big ale drinker (more of a real cider man...) but Owd Rodger was quality. So, has the quality dropped, or was it just badly kept?

I never tried Owd Rodger but earlier this year in the Whitelocks top bar they had Marstons Old Empire,it was either that or OP.I had Marstons thinking it would be more of a session beer but it turned out to be 5.8.

Only seemed to have had Owd Roger at the Duck for a short while as i remember, that wa the last time i had it on draught. When i saw it in bottles at Beer Ritz, and as i was going to my mate Micks house that night (who was also with me the Old Pec/Owd Roger evening ) i thought it would be jolly nice to quaff a beer we loved so much.Bless him, when he saw the box of Sammies Old Brewery a tear welled up in his eye, when he saw the owd roger it was full on flashback, and he visibly became all emotional. The bottles had been kept at an optimum temperature all day,and when it came to the time of opening there was a sense of occasion in the air.Unfortunately the taste did not match up to what (possibly thought)we remembered, and despite finishing the bottle off we were none too impressed, shame really. Is it that our tastes have changed,or is it that it does not have the same ooomph as it does on draught?Who knows,it was onto Sammies next and was quickly forgot about.Old Empire, had that in bottles and very nice too, would like to try on draught. What about Tetleys Imperial, thats the only Tetleys i could drink.Still available around Whitby

When I lived in Newcastle ('78 - '81,) Tetley's Imperial was available in the local (Five Wand Mill, Bensham.) It wasn't a patch on Leeds Tetley's, but was still far better than any other draught (Exhibition, Federation, etc.)I think Imperial was brewed in Carlisle, if I remember right. I didn't know you could still get it.

My brother owns the Beulah (franchise) up in Farnley and last year they had on Tetley's Imperial. Absolutely gorgeous pint it was an'all.

When is he getting it back in, Farnleybloke? I used to go in the Beulah donkey's years ago, and it would be nice to try Imperial again after all these years, and revisit an old haunt!CheersSi
