multiple threads were something which I found annoying, not least because it makes it difficult for those coming later to get a 'full' story, with what might be a pertinent point to them being in one thread but not another, whilst at the same time duplication was equally annoying.
I used to spend considerable time merging threads which had to be done 'long hand' by copy and pasting and then deleting. this was not helped by comments, and this is a genuine quote from a member when asked to cooperate, 'I can't be arsed looking back', others insisting they wanted their own version on a topic and repeatedly opening new threads on that basis.
You may even be surprised (based on your remarks above) just who some of the offenders were!! It is a time-consuming as well as thankless task and can make heavy demands on time which also has to accommodate life and work for some - but efforts have been made.
I think most of the pics are back btw - those posted as links can only be lost if their host URL is changed - any poster have time to do this in quantity must have rather sad life!

Re: Jogon?
It looks like he's not beyond plagiarism either.the latest topic is "Red Kites" http://www.secretleeds.com/viewtopic.php?t=4474
It follows threads on underground tunnels in Leeds Centre and another set out kirkstall way, the skulls, the skywalk ............ What's next a wooden snake
I wonder where he gets his inspiration from.
PS anybody notice how most of his comments are annotated as "edited". Libel, offensive and vindictiveness removed after the event then. Dracula and bloodbank spring to mind

Wooden snakes been done. Most stuff recycled. Theres a post about stuff to come including an underground tour of Leeds and some raf photos. Oh and he's planning on setting up a forum. Which he'll have to manage and moderate.

Re: Jogon?
Its a mirror image of this site practically, and a lot of his "followers" seem to think he is the chosen one of all knowledge relating to Leeds.
I skimmed through the facebook site earlier to see if any photos of mine had been copied over and then I was gonna vent my fury, as of yet haven't found any but I am sure there are some there which belong to this Number 1 Secret Leeds site.

Re: Jogon?
That's because he controls new posts and he introduces a topic with the accumulated knowledge of this site and others. Other contributors then marvel at it and contribute what they can, which he then validates or corrects. If he thinks it's in the wrong place he'll move or remove it. If he disagrees or doesn't like a post he'll delete it. Of course he'll have to do this in spades if he sets up a forum. Which will show his true colours that are all about him. He talks about 'his work' and 'site promotion', where I'd talk about my 'interest' and 'share information'. Which is why we don't get on. If I post something it's public and I'm sharing it and I do it withour claiming ownership or craving recognition, though thanks are appreciated. A typical example is his 'favourite gas lamp'. It's around the back of Headingley Methodist church. He found it because I was too busy to get a photo and told him where it was so it could be shared. In his head its discovery is now part of his 'work'.
Public forums are inherently messy. You can give structure but people will subvert that all the time. You can exert strong editorial control but the site becomes a representation of a view point, an opinion piece. Or you have a public forum, a community, with the differences and inconsistency that brings that needs moderating to ensure the content ground rules are followed, but content is not controlled so it solely reflects what one person thinks. It will be 'imperfect' but then aren't we all.
I've got my ideas on how this site can be developed further but have no idea how technically easy it is or whether Duncan has the time and inclination. Also how can we branch out and share information? theres a group running called Leeds Data Mill who take all sorts of data and information and mash it it up to reveal new a suprising connections and uses. Possibly something to persue in the future.
