Yellowy sticks of wood that for some reason had the name Liquorice Root. we would chew it until it was just dry tasteless strands.

Grown-ups made us kids a drink called "Sheffield Stout" out of Mather's Black Beer and clear lemonade at Chrissy Parties.

Do they still sell "Imps" a small bag of tiny black bits of hard liquoricy stuff . I think it was supposed to be for curing coughs and the like. I used to have a couple many years ago before having a drink of beer, it really gave one an appetite for a pint. on reflection I don't suppose I needed one in those days but they really did sharpen the palate.

Thanks for that info Pal, don't need 'em now as I don't drink a lot anymore, shame really that now I can afford it and have to time to do it the modern beers don't attract me like they used to. Regards John Daly.

It's a long thread, so apologies if this has already been mentioned.

As a child (usually with pals) I recall standing outside cinemas asking adults if they would take me/us in to see films that children could not see unless accompanied by an adult. Once inside the practice was not to sit with the person/people that had taken you in. As far as I am aware you do not see children doing that now.

I think it has been on before but you are correct inasmuch as when you were pushing your money into the mans hand if he had a girl friend you promised NOT to sit with them once the three of you were inside. sometimes the adult would say he was not going to the Pictures and then would dive in at the last minute

Having had quite a busy late Christmas evening on the pop, following a day of abstinence due to to driving obligations, I have been reminded that it seems to be quite some time since I last owned a pair of underpants with an opening in the front.
The older I get, the better I was.
