It's derived from the Romany word gadj meaning outsider or foreigner!!!! Correct me if i am wrong but this thread was not tittled: Dialect/slang words originating from Leeds? Gadge is a word used by people of Leeds & many people i know.

I use the word Gadj myself and have done for years and i also used Chav to mean child long before it became a 'fashionable' word meaning idiot!!! if this thread is not based around things actually from leeds then i ask admin to remove this entire thread! it has no place on a LEEDS website!

I also used the word Chav or charver too before it became a derogatory term. Many words we use as you said derive from Romany & cockney slang/dialect. Apologies if you took it the wrong way?

Bobby Dazzler isn't a local expression. It was derived from the early days of bicycling.Even though it was a new pastime, cyclists were required by law to equip themselves with adequate lighting. If a group of cyclists were returning home at dusk the front rider would guide the rest with a very bright light. This would also 'dazzle' any'bobby' who might want to stop the group. What do you think-True or Bluff!

there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.
