Hi All,I tend to 'Lurk' more than join in for the following reason:I bow to the superior knowledge of the 'Veteran' posters and tend to keep my mouth shut unless I know what I'm talking about. This is the case on all the forums (fora?) I am a member of.I visit SL at least once a day and read everything that may be of interest to me. If I have something I can contribute, I will add it.Facebook is of no interest to me, mainly because I can't make sense of how to actually use it. Posting here is far easier. Old dog new tricks?I think the mods do a great job. It must be difficult to please everyone all of the time.Long live SL!!
If it aint broke.........Break it!

Hi Kango we go back a long way there is no problem with your post. I know my posts are on the short side but i sometimes think members might think i am going on a bit. You are right about us oldies we have lived in a different age the Leeds that we see now is not the Leeds we grew up in.When we pass on, all our knowledge from the past is lost if i meet people older than me i try to get them to talk about there past.If i talk to my granddaughter who is thirteen she thinks im from another world when you think about it i am. Its a world i would not change even if i could my childhood was poor but very happy in an Hunslet that no longer exists. There i go again right of the thread topic sorry.
No matter were i end my days im an Hunslet lad with Hunslet ways.

Hi everyone. I stopped posting on here ages ago. Why? Well i'm sorry but i honestly believe that all topics of interest have been explored and discussed to oblivion. Reflect back if you will to Secret.Leeds imperial period around 4/5 years ago. Its all there in its splendid, quirky, varied glory in the archives. Compare then with now, sadly there is no comparison. Today's site is a tired, dying, insipid shadow of what it used to be albeit one filled with great memories of a mighty past. Its no-ones fault. We've just exhausted interesting, Leeds based things to talk about, I apologise to the moderators and loyal site contributors who obviously love and cherish this site. You probably find my comments hurtful even insulting. However this is simply my opinion. Thank you.l

Thank you.l Frankly, Franco I doubt whether most SL-ers are that concerned one way or the other about your current views about the site. Most of us get something from SL and, of course, you are entitled to your opinion along with the rest of us. However, methinks you protest (and apologise) a little too much.

Franco's thoughts may be pretty blunt and straight to the point. But there is more than a valid point to them.A forum that relies solely on user interest and input balances on a very precarious tightrope.Loose that user interest and input and it's a fast fall to oblivion.

Do you think Phil, that adding the "human element" to run along side the "bricks and mortar" I suggested in my earlier posts has any merit, or is that a dead end also?

Absolutely, It's a whole new lifeline of potential new users and input. I do feel as if that lifeline has been severed before it's even been given a chance to work.It would have to be in a less formal format than the threads section though. It would only work like that to make folk feel comfortable.

Evolve or perish as it were. I think there is much merit in that philosophy we need to attract not only newer members but younger ones and more female ones also, to tell the stories of their secret Leeds. As it stands I think the more "formal" ethos at present could be off putting to them.I'm sure that Duncan is aware of this, and of the other points raised, and will launch the new site with this in mind.

It's the living on past glories thing I think. Remembering the hit songs you had in the late 60's, the goals you scored in the championship season. Those days are long since gone and they aren't coming back. Relying on how things were isn't the saviour really. You either realise this in good time, or you don't. One is survival, the other is game over.

Hi Phil The point you make about relying on things from the past is this not the reason that we have Secret Leeds.I know i post about Hunslet a lot but the point is its an Hunslet that is no longer there a lot of the members on this site would be half my age. That being the case they would have no idea what Leeds was like in the past unless told by someone who had lived at that time. Please dont think that i thought you were pointing a finger at me its just that i can only post about the things that appertain to me.
