Building Near Kirkstall Forge Along The Canal

Hard to tell what it was. The small brick hut looks like a platelayers hut. I presume the building next to it was owned by the railway. I'll have to check old maps, there was a Kirstall Forge station in that area a long time ago.

Will have to blow my boat up see if i can get some pics from the river. Wonder how The Forge security would handle that one

They are 2 vans and half a dozen guards politely asked me to go away when i was trying to get to the building.

I would very much doubt that the larger stone building was anything to do with the railway. Its design and construction speak more of an agricultural function, though its proximity to the river may be relevant. It may well have preceded the railway.The smaller boxlike building looks like a (relatively) modern platelayer's cabin - ie post 1923 grouping. The old Kirkstall Forge station was some distance to the west, at the other side of two river bridges, so is unlikely to have a causal connection.

Looks like that to me as well Jim.Old railway buildings up and down the land have a particular "look" to them, hard to describe or even put into words, but it doesnt look like the normal railway trackside buildings i come across.The little one is a plate layers cabin though.
