Agreed, it seems to be populated by those who go on the YEP discussion pages, you know the sort, that always ask for swimming pools to be built by the council on privately owned land that is being developed.Sorry if that upsets anyone, but its true.

That said there has not been one instance of bickering or arguing in well over 2 years since the group started. I do agree that the Secret Leeds forum needs a new look, some fresh ideas, and given a makeover to kick start it back to life these days. Not quite true about the bickering though Phil, i should know, i was one against a dozen who wanted a swimming poool/ school/ skating rink on the Victoriagate site.SL does need a makeover, but would want to retain the open minded/sensible debate/shared genuine interest attitude that pervades on SL.

I wondered why you suddenly quit the group without saying anything. I guess someone upset you then with a different opinion to yours by the looks of things? Shame about that then, because you were admin of it for 2 years, and one of the original members right from the beginning when we saved this forum from becoming history itself

I agree with the none FB usage. I personally do not use it. I joined when it first came out but found nothing on it of interest to me so have not used it for over eight years but the annoying thing of course is you can not uninstall you are always there.I lived and worked in Leeds all my life till I retired and now live in Spain but It is good to hear what's is going on or not as the case may beMy mother lives in Meanwood so I still get to know the local gosip so as others befor me have said keep the site as it is with possible updates and plenty of interesting chatterSteve

I use Secret Leeds and FB i find they are both good places to get knowledge of Leeds past and present. As has been said before Secret Leeds is the place i come for more in depth history of Leeds i see you guys as the 'professionals' who can give me times dates places and the history of places in Leeds but you are limited in number and to new people the site is not so user friendly. But FB the enthusiastic 'amateurs' seem to tell me more about the nitty gritty of somewhere i might of been to in Leeds. As they work, worked live or lived there in some cases I tend to post my Pics on there mainly because of the numbers of users and i get really interesting comments and PMS from people. Although saying all that i still tell people about this site and that this is a whole lot better than FB and there's not much you lot do not know.

I really don't like this emphasis on competition or which site is better than which. It's not what the thread is about. I find it unhealthy for the good of the forum really.Just to clarify the facebook group was only set up when this forum crashed for around a month in December 2012. It was a place where members could get together and find out what had happened to the forum. And from there we were able to plan a course of action, and very slowly, and with a lot of head hitting against the wall we managed to bring the S.L forum back to life. Had those people not bothered at the time - then we would not be here today. Like it or not, but this forum already has adverts, and the facebook style 'share' buttons. Your computer is full of tracking cookies spying on your website browsing constantly. If this forum is to continue to thrive - you can bet your bottom dollar you will see many more facebook like functions being added to this forum in any new makeover. As quaint as it is, the S.L forum is an outdated dinosaur getting less and less user input. And if it's to continue to be a profitable venture for the owner it makes sense to bring it up to date with other social media websites. I'm not sure why there is so much uncalled for negative criticism directed against the very same members who use this forum today, and also are the ones who saved it from distinction. There seems a good deal of 'selective' and 'short memories' at play here

If i was going to quit because of that then i would have done so at the time.As for SL itself there does need to be improvements, the advertising factor and all the other points you have made are what i also aspire to for SL.What i do find is that the FB page, which as you state was designed to get SL back up and running, isnt in competition with SL, it compliments it and attracts new potential members for SL.Unfortunately some of those who are members of the FB site are typical YEP online forum contributors who, shall i say, arent always open to reasonable discussion, to a point where they become hostile.Different strokes and all that i suppose.

I joined SL2 via FB when this site hit problems and I was happy to see members of SL on SL2. I. (like plenty who joined SL2), don't like FB for reasons already stated but I joined anyway as I still wanted to be a part of this site and its members. When the SL site hit problems I also "did my bit" and e-mailed a couple of places more or less begging them to keep the SL site alive as it holds so much educational value re Leeds. We "amateurs" on SL2 may not be as professional as most on SL but I am still learning about my home city and that is the most important thing. If it weren't for Phill starting up the SL2 site I would have lost touch with this site long ago.

There seems a good deal of 'selective' and 'short memories' at play here Many valid points there Phil, but i think that criticism isnt aimed personally at you or most of the FB members. The criticism is stimulating a healthy debate and this debate may well be useful when (and if) the new look SL site comes along. We all have our views, and we are all pretty much entitled to air them on SL. Anyone on SL that disagrees with an opinion, on the whole, does so in a positive way.If the site is to develop then we should all have an input and i dont expect everyone to agree with mine or others opinions. But "debating" in this way lets everyone else know what each person thinks and gives those persons the chance to see the others point of view.As for less and less user input that has been a worrying trend for some time, however, i visit the site daily (when i can) and i only participate where i find something of interest/relevance.Perhaps this is true for others and as such may be more indicative that many subjects have been covered or have quickly run there course, after all, there are only so many secrets.
