On page 5 of the Yorkshire Evening Post today (June 2 2014) it reports that "Briggate, Commercial Street, Lands Lane and other key shopping streets" are to be fully pedestrianised for longer hours from June 30. The current pedestrianisation between 10:30am to 4:30pm will become 10:30am to 7:00pm. One thing in the report that surprised me (but perhaps it should not have) was that "The peak shopping time on Saturdays is now after 3pm".

Earlier this year there were howls of protest from some shopkeepers as to how they'll manage things like deliveries and collections. They must remember that the council knows best...although it seems that enforcement of the rules is hit and miss from what I've seen.I couldn't comment on 'peak shopping times' - the retail areas of Leeds city centre are somewhere best avoided on a Saturday and if I absolutely must venture there it's first thing or not at all.

I recently read that lower Merrion Street (thus presumably that from New Briggate to Vicar Lane) is to be closed to through traffic from before the end of June (2014) but I can't find where I read it!

Passing by in early p.m. today I noticed that entry to lower Merrion Street from New Briggate was already blocked off.

I thought id posted this a few days earlier must not have uploaded though. I know that merrion street is definatley gonna be pedestrianized i work over road at sandinistas and have a mate that works at mojos. This has both been confirmed by mojos and my work. Not sure about other streets though.
