I wouldn't mind but I can practically see it out of the window every day but I can't recall what's where. Hi BarFly Do you mean Ring Plant when i worked for Harding and Rhodes on Water Lane they owned that building i helped put in a wire drawing machine in there. That would be in the nineteen sixties. It was RS I was thinking of -- just had to check on Google Earth. I do recall Ring though as I had a friend who lived in gildersome and we used to get the bus past it.I used to work for Comet in a warehouse in the industrial estate you turn right into after where the the Pack Horse was also. For one reason or another I seem to have spend a good deal of time on Geldered road. The same with me Barfly i worked at Robson Power Tools over the road from the Pack Horse Pub.
No matter were i end my days im an Hunslet lad with Hunslet ways.

Hi All,Could it be here?www.leodis.net/display.aspx?resourceIdentifier=9449In the 70's we used to play around and in the Ravells quarry area. The large mound to the right of the Leodis picture was there then along with the ruins of the brick mine building and chimney. There was also the remains of what appeared to be a brick lined shaft that was filled in or capped below ground level. The row of houses were gone, but the rubble from the demolition was present. There was a narrow lay-by from the main road in front of the houses and the kerb layout to this is still present today although the site is now landscaped. The entrance road to the barrel works (E. Pease and Son) was at the upper end of the row.The house visible in the far distance is still present at the brow of the hill and the shooting range was behind it to the right. We used to collect .303 cartridge cases in there. The whole quarry area became landfill in the 80's but I suspect this was long after the original authors memories. I never saw any old cars around here, only remnants of the mining and quarrying equipment.EDIT:Just found these...www.aditnow.co.uk/community/viewtopic.a ... e-73008The pictures show the area exactly as I remember it.I forgot about the filling station being here in the previously mentioned lay-by. There is/was in fact a similar lay-by on the opposite side of the road, too.Cheers
If it aint broke.........Break it!

I thought this map that I have taken from a 1921 1:2500 map in the Old-Maps UK website may be of interest as it shows Raffles Pit and area then. The interesting http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... L3whf.dpuf image in Leodis that was posted by Omegaman seems to correlate well with the map.

This much plainer map is taken from the 1938 1:2500 map in the Old-Maps UK website. It shows Ravells Pit (note the differing spelling from the 1921 map) and nearby area.
