One problem is that previous "repairs" were so shoddy (Take a look at Churwell Hill for a good example) that water was able to penetrate the surface, freeze and fracture the road surface.

Reported in today's paper, LCC state in response to a claim for damage involving a pothole -But she did add that the council had a duty to contest an insurance claim and protect public money, and that the authority simply needed to show that a regular road inspection had been done.Apparantly 6 to 12 months apart and anything missed clerly wasn't there!Try that one in court when the meter man trips over an uneven bit of your garden path. One answer would be for people to ring and report every defect they find - with the benefit of being informed, would there still be any grounds for refusing a claim???

Does anyone have an 'android mobile app' for speed camera alerts?Seems a good idea, I've noticed that a lot of taxi & private hire use satnav + camera alert on phones in screen holders. Could help us all drive more safely.Auto express did a test a while back http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/accessorie ... ra-appsand Cameralert came out well. Any thoughts, tips appreciated (I'm new to smartphone and just working out how to use it )

You could try using the app your car was supplied with: the speedometer app. Keep the number on that lower than the number on the road signs you're passing and you don't need to know where the cameras are...

I think, Bruno, what you're trying to say is that the most dangerous component in my car is the little nut behind the wheel does anyone have experience of audible speed camera alert apps ?

"audible speed camera alert apps" Have you considered getting married ? You will get all sorts of audible alerts when driving.

Variable speed limits need to be clearly signed otherwise it's open to interpretation about how safe it is. I was happily driving along a French motorway within the speed limit. There was a very light mizzle for a few miles. I got pulled over by a cop and told that I should have been driving at the lower speed limit due to the rain. We had a friendly conversation about the difference between mizzle and rain but I still ended up £80 lighter.
