Were the last few not at the top of Vicar Lane on the northern side?

When I commented earlier today, in the Kirkgate Market thread, on dating a photograph using a car's registration plate, it reminded me of something else you don't see any more; new registration letter launches at motor dealerships.Back in the 1970s, the evening of July 31st would see the big car dealerships invite to their showrooms the lucky few who had ordered a brand new car. In traditional 1970s fashion, the prospective owners would enjoy a glass or two of champagne, or something equally intoxicating, before counting down the seconds to midnight and then getting behind the wheel of their new and unfamiliar motor to charge off into the night, in an attempt to park the first new registration plate in their town/village/estate/street.I wonder why they stopped doing that?

Mentioned that at Evans Halshaw recently and was told that since the move to 6 monthly new regs, sales are now very much balanced through the year with little more than normal demand 'on the day'.

I particularly liked the 'SS Yorkshire Rose Leeds' lifebelt in 1.
