PS - at 1000 - 1030 (right now) there is more smoke, but pure white this time, rising from roughly the same region - although possibly a bit further east than yesterday's fire - its difficult to accurately spot the location over the intervening trees etc.PPS - white smoke still dritfing at 1425.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

Nice one anthonydna.Still smoking away at 3.30pm today when I went up Kirkstall Road. Was on bus going into town yesterday morning and driver asked us to shut all windows as we approached gyratory. Although it has since emerged that the smoke was not toxic but it must have stank!

These recycling plants that are supposed to be good for the ecology, but they seem to have a habit of this.Remember the tyre dump a few years back I can't find anything on it, because it get overshadowed by events at Sherburn earlier this yearhttp://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-york-nort ... 759830Then there was the fire at Tockwith, which led to the loss of the whole plant and the company ging bankrupthttp://www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/8324103.Explos ... redictably, once you start looking at stories such as these, they are usually preceded a couple of years earlier by local residents expressing their concerns, whilst their wonderful councillors tell them all about the new local jobs wealth and prosperity that handling other peoples [edited for content] brings. Time and again you see it.

Time and again you see it. You're right. These recycling plants do seem highly combustible.Don't forget the one by the M621 last year as another local example.Wasn't there a story in the YEP a month or two back about various fire brigades setting up a working group to look into why so many of them are mysteriously igniting?

One sad consequence of the fire is that many fish have been reported to have died probably due to pollution. There is a report on page 10 of the Yorkshire Evening Post (YEP) today (April 24 2014). This is a link to an online report about the dead fish in the YEP website:- http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/n ... 6571850The online report has a short video showing some dead fish at the Canal Wharf area, but you may have to see an advertisement video first.
