Billy Liar Film 1963

Its not a remake of 'Billy Liar', but coming up in the cinema's in the next few weeks will be a new version of 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty'. I've never seen the film but I've heard people use the phrase "Walter Mitty" character in reference to 'Billy Liar' - and myself.. Who knows maybe if they're going down the route of 'rebooting' (I hate that word they use!) old films like this then 'Billy Liar' will get an updated / ruined version put out soon, if its not already in production..

My friend and I went to Green Lane to see some of the shooting when Billy thinkshe is in the Army. They had one or two tanks there and the Army. The extraswere supposed to climb on the tank and hug Billy etc. I tried to get on thetank but it was too high for me so decided to just watch it happen.I did, however, manage to speak to Tom Courtney and John Schlesinger on a break.I managed also to get their autographs which have been lost on the piece of paperduring the 50 years. I did not know who Tom Courtney was at the time buthis eyes were the most gorgeous blue. p.s. the story of the Teacher going out with Julie Christie. That seems to ring abell from all those years ago, in fact, I think it was in the Evening Post too?

Managed to get an advanced screening of this. Not like the original or like Billy Liar at all. Well worth it if you get a chance to see it.

Billy Flyer:-Ok, most of us have seen the film, some have read the book. The Theatre play came after the book and Albert Finney played Billy, then Tom Courtney. Luckily the film chose Tom.But until I got chatting to someone at work today, I'd never heard of "Billy - the musical". I saw the posters and dismissed it as that tedious Billy Elliot the ballet lad.Music by John Barry..! ( as in Film themes http://youtu.be/KHvKviaeulg) so could be good but can't find it? Lyrics by Don Black.written by Dick Clement & Ian La Frenais (sound familiar).I think it came out about 1974 and Michael Crawford ("Oooh Betty") was Billy, Elaine Paige Rita, I don't know who done the Julie Christie.Anyway Halifax Light Opera Society are presenting it at Halifax Playhouse, King Cross Street June 17th to 21st (good train links and fine pubs) Blakey, Secret Leeds Tourbus?...

I've never seen it staged but I do have a copy of the Original Cast Recording of Billy (with all my other vinyl up in the loft I hope). I think the best song in the show is "Some of Us Belong to The Stars" sung by Michael Crawford. Although his attempt at a northern accent is a little uninspiring I have heard worse.See what you think - as Jogon says it's on Youtube.
