It was on the BBC web site a few months ago. The entrance is where the cash machines are now, sandwiched between Woolies and a pawn shop behind the florists. From the pics on the BBC site it looked like a time warp, all gaudy decor and retro telephones. The auditorium is huge with the seats and projection gear gone. Any further info (name perhaps) gladly accepted. Hi the Cinema in the merrion centre was an ODEON it was closed in 1978 when screen 3 opened in the ODEON on the headrow. The entrance is up on the landing behind the mirrors. The door downstairs by the cash machines is the fire escape. It was a fantastic cinema with a huge screen that could show 70mm. It was also the place they used to show the childrens film foundation films for kids on a sat. morning. Apart from being striped out the place is as good as new inside. Lots on here about the Odeon, have a look at this thread for startershttp://www.secretleeds.com/forum/Messages.aspx ... ighLight=1

Have a look at the Cinema Treasures of Leeds here http://tinyurl.com/69xwse9
Is this the end of the story ...or the beginning of a legend?

The Lounge site, which has stood empty for years, is now being developed. The auditorium has sadly been completely demolished. The facade, on North lane, is being retained, and has been 'pierced' for windows at ground floor level

On page 13 of the Yorkshire Evening Post today (June 1 2013) there is a photo taken on July 23 1968 of the demolition of the Harehill's Cinema (then a bingo hall) at the junction of Roundhay Road and Karnac Road. In information I've found it said the actual name of the cinema was 'The Picture House' but it was known as 'Harehill's Cinema'. As a cinema it opened on December 16 1912 and closed on October 5 1963, becoming a bingo hall. The following is a link to a photo in the Leodis website that has shows some of the cinema (the main object in the photo is a nice shot of a bus) and has interesting comments:- http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... AY=FULLFor myself I cannot however remember the cinema yet I readily recall and used to go to the close-by Clock and the not so far away Hillcrest, Vogue and Dominion cinemas. My lack of memory is worrying at times!

By chance when trying to find information on something completely different I noticed a cinema marked on a 1933 1:2500 map in the Old Maps UK website. I have attached a section of that map where towards the bottom a cinema is marked on Broadfoot Street. I would be grateful if anyone has any information about that cinema. It is not the Regent cinema which is marked as a 'Picture Theatre' to the top of the map between the Shoe Factory and the Pickle Factory (all on Torre Road). I used to go to the Regent as a kid to young teenager in the 1950s, but likely never after then.

I had tried a search (though not of Leodis, which I really should have done) but not knowing the name of the cinema I drew a blank. I like the 'Cosy Cinema' name. PS. The film billed is the Black Coin. On looking at the Internet Movie Database website that may be one of the 15 episodes of The Black Coin (1936). 323 min. Adventure. 1 September 1936 (USA). Federal agents and smugglers battle it out over lost secret papers. Director: Albert Herman. Writers: George M. Merrick (story), Dallas M. Fitzgerald (adaptation). Stars: Ralph Graves, Ruth Mix, Dave O'Brien and others that was in 15 cliff hanging episodes. They don't make 'em like that anymore!

The Harehills cinema began showing Asian films many years ago but i cant recall just when. it was on the left hand side of Roundhay Rd. only a few hundred yard from the Clock cinema
