Guess buiding coming down The whole row (south side of Eastgate) is being taken down to make way for a new shopping centre. Hoagy's shut just after the new year. I think the north side of Eastgate is also earmarked for demolition at some point in the future.

I drove past the Royalty on the Chevin (closed for a long while) today and its being refurbished and is to reopen on the 21st of February . A good sign indeed, although of course in view of its location its got to be car trade only (or hikers and walkers of course.)
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

I'm sure it was open a few weeks ago - is this another recent casualty? Pity if so, as it used to be a decent boozer a few years ago from what I remember. Its one that has been shut several times and then reopened. They do keep doing up the outside presumably to attract people in but seem reluctant to spend money on the interior which might add to the encouragement to come back (real ale being the only other attraction). The problem it has now is several real ale establishments have "recently" been added to the "Scabby Taps" in the near vicinity. Tapped opened just before Christmas, Friends of Ham is less than 2 years old and Leeds Brewery's Brewery Tap is 4-5 (?)years old and all within about 100 yards on busier pedestrian thoroughfares Prince of Wales open again on Friday 21 February when I drove past.Blackboard (with menu?) placed outside along with a table and a couple of chairs. Pub door firmly open.Café society returns to Mill Hill. For now.

Guess buiding coming down I have not passed the Eastgate frontage of the block that has Hoagys for a while so I was surprised when I passed by yesterday (April 11 2014) that all the businesses on that block seemed to be closed, presumably for the Victoria Gate development. I wonder if they are to be demolished?I never went into Hoagys Bar. My recollection may be wrong but did it used to be called Yorkshire Hussars (or was that some other pub) and possibly also the Marquis of Granby. I wonder what the inside of Hoagys looks like, such as does/did it have any interesting old features.

The Marquis of Granby was a different pub, on the opposite side of the Roundabout.
