Where have all the people gone

I got brought up in Gipton Spent 28 years there. When I was teenager in late 70s used to walk cross fearnville fields,wykebeck through Seacroft to Seacroft town centre which then had a market. There was these maisonette type flats which had rough reputation think called Parkways. Went on bus yesterday which went through Seacroft estate and I noticed flats and a lot of houses gone.No building either to replace these homes. So I was wondering with a growing population where have all these people gone.

Im glad someone has asked this as this confuses me. Obvioulsy we have a growing population and i know we tend to build up now and a lot of green fields have been built on however it does not appear (to me) as though there is more housing in leeds than there used to be.Im always amazed to find housing estates where id never think there were before it looks like entire communities have been cleared.As there were many people to a dwelling in the past this only reinforces my view.A few examples are all the housing in the city centre like round east street for example, all down the bottom end of dewsbury road and i couldnt believe how much housing used to be just off kirkstall road where YTV would be now looks like a small town was moved maybe the war played a part?

Ponder this also I grew up in Burley lots of terrace houses. the house I grew up in was four bedrooms but is now a seven bedroom student let.Also most of Headingley is given over to students all the big houses turned into student lets so the people of Leeds dont live there anymore Bearing in mind that there are over 40,000. Students in Leeds where have all the people gone? they can't all live in Garforth.

Half have gone to Garforth, the rest are moving to Guiseley!!

Half have gone to Garforth, the rest are moving to Guiseley!! Nearly went there back in 80's awful commute from Guiseley back into Leeds so we went Garforth way well Hambleton near selby 20 miles from Leeds so I think I've answered the question

The street I grew up on Amberton Garth was forerunner for benefits street, most famalies lived on benefits, working on side. We also pulled together when neighbours where in crisis. 1 year we where in YEP because for number of houses 26 we had most children, 6 famalies 10 or more children,in water shortage children queued and got water for less able. On silver jubilee we had street party,all pulling together.People had different pay days so would lend money or borrow from each other,local shop keeper would let people have food to pay day. Wonga would have no chance but that is why wonga is so succssfull we do not help each other like we did

In response to Imhowe i couldnt agree more if it wasnt for the poverty i wouldve fit right in with the times. Its a shame how weve lost our community spirit and theres no signs of it returning either.I swear i was born in the wrong era.I think in answer to where have all the people gone i think the simple answer is just outwards as people have better access to transport these days and dont need to be so close to town but it is staggering how much housing has gone from the edge of town
