Maybe those missing are on holiday,or afraid of change (yitten?) set in their ways. Maybe they had some sense of ownership and don't wish to share. Maybe they have finger trouble; can't get in. I am new here, born Leeds 1960. The smell of the beck changes, running through Cockers'Dale(wild garlic), Sykes' Wood (iron springs), Post Hill (two-stroke aroma), running by the Ring-Road (wild garlic),Fred Lodges (odd scents) big flood sometimes before and after balancing (nonsense)' stinky under Branch Road Finches (battery acid?), under Ringways' (automotive gunge galore), Glovers' Chemicals (who knows what?), gasworks (HAZCHEM!), TRF stainless sinks (worse?), After the little weir and sluice behind Darmon's Dairy on Royds' Lane, we could get milk or Tizer, some cig's from the machine, buid a raft:- a pallet and empty chemical drums, rope. Nope? Then what did you do in those summer holidays? We had a telly, just fewer programmes. The lump of masonry we moved, behind the dairy we strove like ancient monument makers, may ,despite the floods of time, water under bridges etc., may still stand, at a standstill on the concrete gradient of the weir. I hope authority has not moved it. It was a monument to childhood endeavour. I will go and see, then report back, I may be gone some time, but i'm not setting out yet. I am enjoying my adventures, old and new, here and there, when ,where . SecretLeeds Why Not?

I am new to both the 'net and Sl. I was remembering the all-pervading beck smells of my youth. The smell will always be with me. So I was (very unclearly) suggesting the stink I brought with me might put some wiser noses than mine out of joint. I meant no harm. Born Leeds 1960, young noses are keen.

I love SL and promote it whenever I can - quite a few of my friends are lurkers but havnt converted them to join.... yet!Its also very friendly and one of the few places I know online where it is possible to disagree, and even argue with each other, but once 'the dust has settled' so to speak no grudges or otherwise are held. Nice to be able to debate like that online!Wigs

I use StackOverflow.com all the time and it's brilliant, but can be unforgiving on newcomers and the uninitiated
