I wonder if it is modern version of Regam Electrics that used to be on Eastgate? That's interesting too. In that I am sure there was another branch of Regam on the very spot - smaller footprint though - that the imaginatively-titled Mr Arkwright's Tool Emporium now stands.

There was indeed, salt 'n pepper - I remember it well from the 1960s and 70s as my Dad was a caretaker on Wellington Street/King Street and used Regam on Boar Lane for vacuum cleaner repairs and supplies as they were a Hoover dealer. This Leodis photo shows it - Regam was in the unit next to the bank (as was):http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... ULLLeodian, I vaguely remember a branch of Regam in Eastgate, but can't picture where it was!

I am happy to report that I have visited Mr Arkwright's Tool Emporium on two occasions and find it cheaper than Wilkinson's for small items of ironmongery. Also, I had no idea Regam's was still open on Macauley Street.(Thank you) I used to buy pumps from there to repair twin tub washers that people had thrown out because they leaked. It was usually only the pump seal. Oh what grubby fun. I used to derive great satisfaction from "make do and mend". Get your wooden tongs here now!

When did M+B Electronics shut down? I walked down that way a few weeks ago hoping it was still there, I used to buy some crazy stuff in there and they had all manner of ex-military / industrial jiggery pokery for sale.

Is this the end of the story ...or the beginning of a legend?
