Sorry it's taken me so long to spot this message, I would have removed the spam post if I'd spotted it. Thanks for sorting that out Chris. In answer to the question in the thread title, I guess I'm nominally in charge. I run the servers and manage the technical side of the site. If you ever need anything or have any concerns about SecretLeeds please get in touch via ask@tyrell.mobi and I'll do my best to help.Whilst I'm here I'd like to point out that the site's servers are not cheap, nor is paying for work to be done on things like the image uploader system that was recently fixed. The adverts on the site finance all of that. Please bear that in mind when using ad blocking software on this site and recommending it to other users. If you see any inappropriate adverts one the site don't hesitate to notify me on the email address above and I will make sure they are blocked from appearing. Thanks!
Contact me via ask@tyrell.mobi if you have any questions or comments about the site.

Hear, hear DCSO, before I got to your post I was already thinking about the irony of a thread that started with "Spam still up after 24 hours, where are the mods?" on a site that is totally free to users, followed by posts promoting ad-blocking!I'd rather see (and ignore) ads than have to pay for the site out of my own pocket.

Just like to point out I said I didn't see any ads myself as I use an ad blocker, therefore I couldn't see the same problem and help in that respect. The only thing I promoted was ''perhaps you should run some anti virus or spyware program on your p.c? I'm only speaking for myself here. There was another post, made not by me with a web address linking directly to an ad blocker that's since been deleted and no longer visible.

Normally I wouldn't even have bothered replying to edlongs post. But on this occasion, and seeing how the other post has been deleted. I appear to be now the only one mentioning the word 'ad blocker' And therefore I felt eds remarks to have an underlying tone of 'ungrateful, biting the hand that feeds' and somehow irresponsible behaviour implications. And I was only trying to help the original poster with his problem.Seen as one post has been deleted, I can't see of what use it serves to bring the issue of an ad blocker back into topic. The only thing it can do is to make people curious and see if they are any good and install one. In so doing defeating the object of the original remark condemning the use of ad blockers. I was only speaking for myself as already stated, as I now appear to be the only one who had mentioned ad blocker above. But saying something, and telling someone to do something is two totally different things. I could say 'I get very drunk, take lots of drugs, and run naked through the woods at night shouting Eureka! Actually I don't, but I'm not promoting anyone else to do it either! I think D.S.C.O may have deleted the link Chris???

I can see the point disco is making we have a far better server because of money from adverts. We can all remember the trouble with the last server crashing for days on end. I for one am taking the ad blocker off my laptop i loaded it on a few days ago but on second thoughts i will have the adds. We have had no trouble with crashing since disco sorted every thing out and if the adverts help to keep this site running then there fine with me.
No matter were i end my days im an Hunslet lad with Hunslet ways.

Your absolutely right Tilly, the new site since taken over by D.S.C.O has been superb with no glitches at all. Duncan being the owner has every right to protect his advert revenue to carry on hosting the website. I have no issue with him stating this fact at all. As far as I was concerned this thread was now dead as a Dodo, the offending spam has gone and Duncan had cleared things up, and in so doing closed the thread nicely. It would have been best to let it just dwindle away and get lost in the vast archive of Secret Leeds. It was Ed's post some three days later which I felt started to point accusing fingers for some reason. Especially as I now seemed to be the only one it was pointing too. I just felt it right to put the record straight seeing as his post was unlikely to be deleted, or amended. Then anyone reading this post in the future would be looking at me, as if it was I that had done these things he was condemning. edlong wrote: totally free to users, followed by posts promoting ad-blocking!I'd rather see (and ignore) ads than have to pay for the site out of my own pocket. That aside, it's worth pointing out to Edlong you can look at his statement in two ways. You can look at it and think, yes I surf this website and use it free of charge.Or you can look at it this way. Yes I contribute to this website, other people do too. Some more than others, some people have put many, many hours into documenting things and contributing to this website. Just two of my posts, the R.A.F photos, and underground Leeds tour have had 59,868 views on them. That's two posts I put many hours of work into, and one of them isn't even half finished. So what statement would apply in that situation? You are using the website free of charge, or you are putting in hundreds of hours unpaid work attracting visitors too, and promoting a website that makes money advertising to people, the more people the better. I don't think anyone using this website does it other than the love of Leeds, or deep interest in it. But it's one interesting train of thought to ponder I think.
