Where the hell have they got £175m a year from?Thats the most ludivcrous figure ever. Its not as if some big comapnies will say"Ooh look Leeds have got some buses with wire cotahangers on top, come one,we'll relocate our business there!!!"Thats the only way that you could get that sort of figure

The truth needs to be told here. In actual fact it won't boost Leeds economy by a solitary 1 pence piece. It will actually cost the City millions of pounds of lost investment over the years. No one will come to this backward City when they see the pathetic ambitions and plans of it's small town Civic Hall leaders.

To be honest the YEP needs to take a good look at itself and decide if it is an independent newspaper, with a duty to provide factual and impartial information to it's readership - or if it's simply a mouthpiece for the Civic Hall and is just in the business of reprinting press releases without any attempt at journalistic accuracy.

Can someone, anyone, please impress upon Metro and the Civic Hall the obvious fact that ONE main trolleybus route will NOT remove diesel fumes from the area. The other bus services in the area will continue to be diesel powered and hordes of tourists and investors will NOT hasten to Leeds just because we would have a few electric buses. Also, love them or loathe them and I'm unashamedly in the latter category, modern technology has made diesel buses far cleaner than previously. My objections to modern buses are nothing to do with the environment but are for many other reasons. How many of the A660 trolley fans can honestly say that they've seen a diesel bus pouring out black pungent smoke due to poor servicing or excess wear in recent times. The performance of modern diesel buses, I'm perfectly happy to admit, is nothing short of phenomenal - just take a ride up the steep Royal Park Road with 90 passengers on board if you need convincing of power and acceleration. Have the powers that be also "overlooked" the very satisfactory performance of Hybrid diesel electric buses, now that understandable initial teething troubles have been sorted. FirstBus and Arriva are using these successfully in the City, and they are gaining ground in many areas and countries - and of course there is no need for expensive and unsightly infrastructure and power supply.Advanced despair is setting in for me - again !!
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.
