Paused a while to watch around 8.00pm last night (Tuesday) - it was rather eerie as there were very few folks in the street, and even less patrons on the Wheel.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

On page 13 of today's YEP (March 9 2013) there is a photo dated December 3rd 1972 of a 'Spaceman' being fixed in Queen Victoria Street as part of the Christmas decorations. The caption stated there would be four of the figures.

Sorry if its being mentioned elsewhere. Does anybody knpw what's going on/was going on with the Union Street Car Park. Last Wednesday when I passed it was still fenced off in roughly the footprint the wheel occupied earlier in the year. I had thought when I saw it a week earlier that the wheel maybe about to return but no evidence a week on suggests otherwise

The big wheel in York is being dismantled right now - I can see it through the office window. Perhaps that one is coming to Leeds? (If it is, I bet I get stuck behind it on the A64 on my way home. It'll make a change from bloomin' tractors and hay wagons.)
The older I get, the better I was.

I am sure that there was another thread on here about this that someone had commented on recently. There area where the wheel was is still cornered off with non see through fencing.A few years ago there were some excavations in the area where the Market Tavern was, very time-team like. I got talking to one of the guys doing the work and they said that they were doing some excavations for potential building work. It seemed like there was an exposed hearth from a cellar there, and also some empty bottle, and a stag's horn that I was told was on the wall as a decoration.Jump to now and there are the following on the lamp post nearby explaining that this is the site of the old Ebeneezer Chapel and there will be work there to excavate and old burials..... See the attached.

When I had a look yesterday it seems like they have started the excavations and removals of any remains that were there. See the following photos. DOes anyone have any more info about the Ebeneezer Chapel? There are no Leodis photos so I assume it pre-dates the building of the Market Tavern and that parade of shops....
