I had a look round Handpicked Hall last weekend. It's obviously only just opened and there's still a fair bit of empty space, but it's looking pretty good so far. There are plans to turn at least some of the old Bed/Gatecrasher nightclub back into shops as well. With the problems they've had there in the past, such as stabbings and sales of fake vodka, I imagine they'll be glad to get rid of it. Hopefully this is the start of the Grand Arcade going back to being a shopping arcade rather than a random collection of bars and nightclubs. Leeds needs somewhere for smaller traders like the Corn Exchange or Granary Wharf used to be, or Afflecks Palace in Manchester, and having "daytime" trade at that end of town should make it more pleasant than just bars and takeaways.

A really interesting video. Lets hope the fund raising efforts enable the clock to be fully functioning in time for Hogmanay.

Passing through the Grand Arcade today (January 29 2014) I noticed that the Handpicked Hall area facing Vicar Lane and partly in the Grand Arcade was empty and looked like it had been cleared out. I wonder if anyone knows why? Having only recently(ish) opened it does seem soon for renovation work. I know it only opens some days of the week but it should have been open today at noon when I passed by.

Hello leo Long time no type, lolI had a cup of tea up at the original café a few Saturdays ago and watched the clock. All but the cockerel worked, tho left door stuck open.Cockerel last bit of refit.Handpicked hall, the vicar lane bit has so far been empty, I think tenants are slowly filtering in.
