Real Ale Scene wrote: Spencer's is closed. Hardly surprisingly given it's next to The Scabby and opposite Prince of Wales, which is well worth checking out. Three beers in good condition, £2 a pint on Sundays (only open 12-6 though and they do close early in the evenings) and a nice pub in general.Sorry, going off topic there. Rumours have it there could be plans for Spencer's as a pub again, and a good one at that, but plans are very ambitious so we'll just have to see. The P.O.W. was always ok,ish, though declined rapidly throughout the nineties.Hasn't changed too much internally.Spencers on the other hand is a total transformation from what was The Black Lion. Was very much a spit and sawdust type place with only Tetley bitter(beer side) on offer way back.....but boy,was it a mean pint late 70's early 80's.Scarboro' taps was itself, very run down throughout this same period only returning to (elitist) prominence relatively recently. All have suffered quite mixed fortunes in the intervening years.Personally, the Lion was always my favourite but I liked my pubs that way, back then.Much more atmosphere and full of characters.

Used to drink in the Black Lion back in the sixties, and a pint of Tet's was always good, handy for the bookies across the road to, a few pints, a bet and a game of darts in the small bar, happy days.
Ex Merchant Seaman, jumped ship in NZ in 1970...ex pat Leeds Lad. Born/lived lower end Camp Road, then up to York Road in the early sixties.

Real Ale Scene wrote: I've heard the furniture shop in Rising Sun has gone. There's a rumour (hopefully not too far fetched that) that it could be turned back into a pub in the nick of time. The interior I've been told is wonderful and thankfully hasn't been touched since it closed. Here's hoping. Yeah!! Let's hope

There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

Looks like the Travellers at Stanningley is reopening?
there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

I was wondering if anyone remembers the 'Dickie Bow Club' at the Moulders Arms in Leeds in the 1950's. My Grandad and Great Uncle were both members and i have no idea what it was all about!
