It's worth tracking down - I got my copy for £1.00 from WH Smiths in the train station a few years ago. This book reports that in 1939, the people of Leeds had a choice of 68 picture halls, which was the peak amount. Doubtless there were others which were opened after that date or closed before it. It doesn't actually list all of them - how many do you think we could get between us? The Cinema Treasures website has 23 listed. That's spooky-well,it is to me-I visited the cinema treasures website(for the first time) and found 'Leeds'already entered in the search engine!

It does look liek a cinema as well. does it have the sloped roof that so many old cinemas have at the rear? Or is it a flat / standard roof. Thee roofs are a giveaway on old cinemas

there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

Hi Simon,Drapesy and Ravey!Stirring up memories of my 'Travelling' days in the late 60's/early 70's I used to call on a Reliant Dealership in that very building. They were called 'King's of Oxford' and I remember they were one of the first dealers in Yorkshire to take on the 'Bond Bug'! (don't think it sold very well, actually. It should have gone down well with the biker/hell's angel fraternity! (3 wheeler).King's moved there from Thwaite Gate,I believe, and they also hada premises on Roundhay Road.I,too thought that building may have been a cinema! Why didn't I find out Then? Grrrr! Patrons would have been exhausted climbing all those steps at the front!CheersArry
