Leeds Curriculum - 50 stories
Hi All
I am new to Secret Leeds so bear with me a while. I am working with Leeds Museums and Galleries developing a new local curriculum for Leeds focusing on the 50 stories every primary school child should know before they leave school. We have been holding story gaathering sessions and talking to lots of people to refine down a good list of stories with associated learning resources that are linked to the primary curriculum. If anyone wants more info do get in touch but all the resources will be hosted on the MyLearning website http://www.mylearning.org/
My enquiry here is about a story we have heard about an elephant being stuck in a ginnel somewhere near Kippax when the circus came to the area many years ago.
Has anyone heard of this story and have any more information at all even if its just about the circus in that area ? Im looking at finding some evidence if possible and using this story as a hook into a thematic resource around leisure and entertainment in Leeds. Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Leeds Curriculum - 50 stories
Unlike the very subtle insertion in the quote of Jack on the Tramlines thread I for one am happy to leave a .org which does appear to be a learning site, rather than commercial, on. I also don't disbelieve any of the preceding paragraph which gives context to the link and the later request. The 2nd paragraph is actually asking about a Leeds related story which maybe somebody can help out on.
I'm the most junior "Mod" and therefore may be overuled but i see no reason to edit or remove this post but thanks buffaloskinner for drawing attention to potential spam here and elsewhere on the forum.

I found this by googling Elephant+ Kippax
I see that "Truffles" is at 69 High Street Kippax and Jason's is at 73
No sign of an elephant when the google streetview car passed in 2016, but you could well imagine how one would get stuck.

http://democracy.leeds.gov.uk/documents ... ix%201.pdfIt was commented that complaints had been rumoured about the narrow alley between Jasons and Truffles being closed off. (Locally known as Jumbo’s Nick.. So named after an elephant got stuck in there!!!!!) The alley has been closed of for eleven years now and was closed off because it was being used as a toilet, depository for rubbish and for drugs (used needles being evident). The complaint is apparently from an 89 yr. old resident who used to have a garage (some yrs ago) behind Jasons shop. An appeal can be made against the complaint and it was generally agreed to support this appeal, if necessary.
