Disinformation

Post by tyke bhoy »

I had occasion to respond to two separate tweets this morning. One from Leeds Travel Info and one from the Radio Aire account. Though neither was a direct retweet of the other the information source was presumably the same given the very basic mistake that anybody with a reasonably basic knowledge of Leeds City Centre's road network would spot. Both tweets indicated that Neville Street was closed to high sided vehicles, which it probably was.

They both then went on to indicate between the junction of Great Wilson St and New Station Street. Presumably that is a result of the originator not being at all familiar with Leeds and only in possession of a two dimensional map, Therefore not knowing New Station Street passes over, but does not meet, Neville Street. What was meant was, or at least should have been, Swinegate and/or Bishopgate Street. Well at least it seems the days of reporting Bridgewater Place as being closed have ended when they meant portions of Victoria Road, Neville Street and at times Water Lane.

I know Twitter is an informal info channel but even then at least some effort in getting it right when it involves such important matters as road closures and diversions is expected.

PS and not related Duncan is aware of one or two problems relating to the site web page rendering most obviously but not restricted to the proliferation of the word colon in place of the punctuation mark of the same name.
