The nice 1889 date on this building on Maude Street (off Kirkgate) caught my eye so I took these 2 photos on July 7 2015. I would have taken more but the lamppost got in the way!
I wonder if anyone knows any history of the building, as I have unable to find any despite a reasonable search? The building looks like it has been cleaned and probably renovated recently(ish). It is clearly being used for at least offices but in my search I found there is at least one apartment. As the building is more or less opposite The Palace pub it will be obvious to customers sitting outside there (unless they have had a few too many! ).

A rainbow is a ribbon that Nature puts on when she washes her hair.
These pictures are personally fascinating to me, as my Dad was born in Woodhouse in 1889. I was born in 1936 and alrady by that time the World was altering dramatically and has continued to do so ever since. I've only to see the figure "1889" to be transported in my mind over all those years, not only in my own family circumstances but in general. I can't help reflecting on all that has happened Worldwide and in science and other benefits in those intervening years. The former Central High School in Great George Street/Woodhouse Lane , about a quarter of a mile from Dad's birthplace, was also built in 1889 and bears a blue plaque to that effect. Sorry to digress but thanks again for the pictures, and I shall have a look at Maude Street when next in Town, possibly sometime today.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.
It's called "cuneiform" here, possible printing history as well?
Interesting that it mentions 42 the Calls and Ibis Budget but not the Palace or Lamb and Flag. It also seems to obsessed with the workforce arriving by car. A brief dismissive suggestion of the station but no mention that the Bus Station is a 2 minute walk but plenty of info on parking and road access.

PS Thanks Leodian. As well as walking to the Palace from the bus station, I am also regularly dropped off at the Palace outside that building and have never noticed the date on it. I'll take a close look next time although I think the Lamb and Flag may be on the itinerary before my next Palace visit.
