Post by dogduke »

I noticed that Leodis has now over 60,000 photos to view.

Hi dogduke,

Leodis is a fantastic website. I wish that other places had the same available archive.

Of the 60,000 Leodis photos, which photograph do people think is the most visited, or has the most comments?

I suspect that it will be:

County Arcade, Mecca Locarno, (City Centre)
(Just put 'Mecca' in the search facility to find it)

203 comments to date.

I like Leodis but I wish they'd make the "full size" photos a bit bigger. Here's how other places do their photo archives:
Bradford - http://www.bradfordmuseums.org/photolibrary/
Calderdale - http://www.calderdale.gov.uk/wtw/
Kirklees - http://www.kirkleesimages.org.uk/
Wakefield - http://www.twixtaireandcalder.org.uk/
Manchester - http://images.manchester.gov.uk/

And for anyone interested, and because I do a lot of ancestry searching in Wigan here are two of theirs:-

http://www.wiganworld.co.uk/photos/

Both are excellent for researching

I wish they'd add more. I have emailed them dozens upon dozens of pics but they've only put on about 4.

In answer to mhoulden, the bigger pictures used to bigger than now,you could print a reasonable copy then

Leodis have I believe a large amount of unpublished material.
I asked the some time ago about a certain area, they had them but hadn't done anything with them yet. This might be due to financial constraints.

One thing I would like to see alongside the latest additions and the top 50 of the day is a section listing photographs that have been commented on recently, say about week or so,this could probably bring forth more comments and improve the local history knowledge.
I think Leodis staff follow our site, perhaps you will consider it.

Maybe they should allow people to upload their own. I don't mean just anyone, but people who care about Leeds and have spent a good while archiving data to make a worthy addition to the site. Then maybe they could simply tick the 'allow' box for the pic to be viewable by the general public.
Come on Leeds United!
