There is a report on page 17 of the Yorkshire Evening Post (YEP) today (April 24 2014) about a free drop-in cinema that will open at the end of May at the Merrion Centre. It is an event to "mark the shopping centre's 50th birthday". Those 50 years sure seem to have gone by quickly! This is a link to the online YEP report:- http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/n ... 576357Edit added just after posting. Both the online and the newspaper editions have a photo of part of the old Odeon cinema that was at the Merrion Centre but, currently at least, the online photo is very poor quality.

Sounds good."Offering shoppers a trip down memory lane, the small, personalised cinema will showcase a range of films from the past 50 years, starting with the 1964 Disney classic, ‘Mary Poppins’ on May 26.The Merrion Centre was previously home to a 1,000-seater Odeon cinema, which closed its doors in 1977.Now, a retail unit on Arena Mall, next to Cooplands, will be transformed into a unique cinema in a nod to the former Odeon, which is now laying empty behind closed doors.Running on a first come, first served basis, the new cinema can seat around 40 film fans at a time.During the anniversary week, there will films such showing every day at 12pm, including ‘Gone with the Wind’, ‘My Fair Lady’ and ‘The Sound of Music’.Following on from the anniversary week, the cinema will host films every Monday, Friday and Saturday for another five weeks, ending with ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ on July 5.For more information about the cinema’s showings and timings, visit www.merrioncentre.co.uk."

If I could choose 'No Country for Old Men' followed by 'Touching the Void', and be able to take my own chilled spesh + sausage rolls then that would be fun.

I liked No Country For Old Men so I'll look out for Touching The Void. If they showed them in the real cinema in there I'd be more happy though. As for the spesh -- only on weekends.. ;-)
