I don't know how long it has been there but there is a large floating water wheel just below the weir on the river Aire near Lemonroyd Marina. Its about the length of a narrow boat and twice as wide and I could only see the front paddles working. Sorry if its old news.

Thanks for posting - I hadn't heard anything about this before now, but apparently it's part of a renewable energy project.More here: http://www.oblinark.com/ (check the 'news section' for videos and galleries of the 'launch' at Lemonroyd)And here:http://plandocs.leeds.gov.uk/WAM/doc/Ba ... ageCount=1

Thanks for the links. I'm glad they are checking for the effects on migratory fish seeing how we've just got the salmon back.

I am embarrassed to admit that I don't know where Lemonroyd Marina is?

Thanks Tyke for this thread as I did not know of such an intriguing water wheel item. Fascinating.

Thanks Tyke for the thread and raveydavey for the location. I'll have to try to get a look at it.

I've got a selection of pics from the area, although we haven't been down that way for a while. There is a nice park (Water Haigh Woodland Park) slightly upstream and across the canal from the marina, above the oil depot.http://snipurl.com/27rtq64

Its worth the walk down there now as you can access the RSPB site just over the bridge at Lemonroyd.
