The kerb alignment on crown st

I have this fascination with cobbles and street kerbs. They are helpful as indicators of original street layouts as the older kerbstones are easy to spot but this one has bugged me for years.http://goo.gl/maps/7PClcDoes anyone know why what looks to be an old road going directly into a building was this part of a much wider entrance to the cloth hall perhaps ?

The pavement always finished like that, as far back as 1850.It was only a road surface outside the Crown and Fleece pub, just wide enough for a horse and cart to get down the narrow lane. Rather dangerous for a drunk stumbling out of the Crown pub straight onto the road.

Thanks again so what is now a massive entrance to car park was actually really narrow. You would never guess that was a pub nowadays suppose at one time they were all like that though.I just assumed it used to go somewhere but the building on it always looked same age as rest which was the confusing bit. Thanks again

And again, lots about this little area in the Skulls thread Phill mentioned elsewhere.(did you two guys draw the short straw for doing the night shift on here then??)
