The following is reported in John Mayhall's 'Annals of Yorkshire' on today's date (June 21) in 1867:-June 21 1867. "An accident of a very serious nature occurred on the Great Northern Railway, near Leeds. Shortly after six o'clock as a goods train between Halifax and Ardsley was passing over that portion of the line between Copley Hill Junction and the bridge which crosses the Whitehall Road, the engine and tender ran off the rails, and fell over an almost perpendicular embankment, about thirty feet in depth. Eight or nine trucks followed the engine, and were piled one upon another, presenting a scene of the most extraordinary character. The driver, named William Wilson, and the fireman, Abraham Lister, were thrown from the engine, sustaining severe injuries."Edit added later. Ooops, I've noticed in the heading I've put "Tramsport" but that should be "Transport". I hope nobody is googling the internet for sport on a tram!
