Telephone exchange? Chap A

I'm trying to find info/images about the building behind the Yorkshire Bank/Casa Mia/Hub etc in Chapel Allerton, up Allerton Hill, near the tennis club. What was it? When did it close etc. I heard either a telephone exchange or electricity station.......

I have dim and distant memories of it being a Yorkshire Bank processing centre but I could be way off the mark. I can't see it having been a telephone exchange given there was one a mile up the road behind the parade of shops at the entrance to the Stainburns

A search on this tern brings up "Allerton House Properties Ltd" a financial services company based at 20 Merrion Way aka Yorkshire Bank HQ.

It still looks like it's an electricity sub station, or it was in 2009 when the Google street view car went past herehttp://snipurl.com/1z4i7bI had a look at it before on the street view, I thought It was unusual in having two floors, or the appearance of a small tower. I'll have a look on the old maps and see when it was built, but first thoughts are it will be 1930's. There is also a similar(ish) one at the back of the Fforde Greene.

Surprisingly it's not featued, or marked on any map from 1850 to present day. Unusual because it's a good sized building?

Yorkshire Bank did have premises around there but I thought they were fairly new build in the late 70's ?? I also thought CA also had an exchange nearby too - making enquiries on that one - such a purpose would explain the map absence.

It's certainly a good sized building hid away in those trees.

The building I'm thinking of is on a large site directly behind the YB. Opp Regent St. Def looks 30's with crittal windows, large 4 storey, fenced off, left to go derelict. An application has been rejected to turn it into bars & flats. I want to find out what it was. Got some pics which I'll try to load. It features in several Leodis site photos in the background of shots of the parade of shops, 1942.
