Intriguing letter in tonights YEP letters. Someone is asking about a building (I presume) called The Mance on Wellington Street from 1944. Can't find anything on this forum or Leodis. The writer suggests an army (ATS) connection.Any ideas? Found this for "Manse"http://www.stortfordhistory.co.uk/guide6/the_manse.html ‘Manse’ is ‘an ecclesiastical residence'

Nearest I can get on Leodis is St Philips Vicarage and Sunday School at the end of Wellington Street:http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... ifier=1862

Hi geoffb,I think that this may have been the Lisbon Street Hostel. Lisbon Street was situated at 120 Wellington Street, Leeds 1. There are lots of pictures of it on Leodis.Ian

The 1908 map shows it to be the SA Barracks at that date - no sign/mention of a pool nor do I recall seeing anything to suggest one during demolition from my nearby vantage point(!) - but it was dome years ago now
