Leeds canal towpath

Hi all,on my first comute in to leeds today via the towpath (first day really light enough) i passed the spot which was closed last year, has anyone been down that way since?They have tarmaced a stretch from the small boat yard all the wayto just past Armley mills where a new car park has been built. They have removed the steps from the 2 small bridges that are situated by the boat yard and created a slope.It's lovely and fast to ride on but it feels like it has been raped and all it's character taken away, all the stone slabs down the side of the mills have also gone.I'm all for improved access for all but it seems (to me) to have lost it's soul.

They were doing that work around November time last year. I had to take a very long detour around the Kirkstall substation, they had the canal towpath closed, I was less than impressed lol.I was back along there the week later, they still had it closed off, i wasn't doing the detour again, I climbed both cordon fences Your right, It is very smooth, ideal for bikers, but the character has gone yes agreed.

IIRC a lot of the stone by the mills was knicked.

Cyclists should make the most of that smooth tarmac. Once the fishing close season ends you'll be stopping every 10 yards for someone to shift his fishing tackle... It really is ridiculous that any "improvement" has to be so totally sanitized as we see here.

I thought the challenge was to bunny hop over his nice carbon fiber pole??? 8-)But yes highly sanitised it has become, best watch out for the bikers however as the new stretch is seriously fast.

And many cyclists will have spent serious money on their bikes, but not 50p on a bell.
