Thanks both.I've mailed you Brandy.I had trouble saving a google earth image Chris.Apparently it's a known issue with the latest google earth version.I reinstalled the old version and it worked fine.The image i wanted for my new story is herehttp://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=265602590&blogId=494800841It's all about Ghost trainsWhoo whoo

Phill, not hijacking your thread (!) but it reminded me about Barrowby Woods, the blob shows roughly the position of the hole you were looking for - it's up a slight rise to the right of the track and probably very overgrown now simmer's here. Sorry it's been so long, have had a lot to do, hardly had time to even look in on here this last week (I think its safe to jump into it.....)

Phill_dvsn wrote: P.s we were looking at the end of the lane it the wrong place before lol I thought you might have been, more towards the Thorpe Park development? - well at least that was the general area of the site of West Yorkshire Colliery with a further shaft somewhere in there (buried) and other old workings (Brown Moor) slightly further east still.Really not sure about the integrity of this shaft, that it's not protected suggests it's safe and I suspect more likely filled (and settled) than just capped.

I seem to remember that there was a shaft visible around the location that I’ve marked with the yellow spot. I only ever went into the woods from that corner and never ventured over towards the eastern side of the site so I don’ think that I’m confusing one with the other.

Had quite a good look round whilst we were there liits but didn't see anything on the eastern side - at least nothing exposed, though the ground was more level there. The Geo maps only show the one I found in the woods.
