Hi, newbie here. Apologies if this one has been brought up before, but i'm intrigued. In Leeds 17 (and probably other areas) there are two areas, each about the size of a football pitch, which are just raised up, flat, grassy areas, fenced off with those Spiky metal fences you see around schools and similar. One is behind Highfield School, off Belvedere Avenue, and the other is off Nursery Lane, near St Johns Church and the Post Sorting office. Does anyone know what they are? My educated guess would say the Nursery Lane one has some kind of Utility (water board?) use, because of the big tower, but i'm probably wrong. Ta

Ta The tower and the signs give it away a bit, a water tower and pumps with a large semi-underground reservoir.

One winter in the early/mid 80's one of the gates had been left open to the Nursery Lane tower so all the local kids got their sledges out and started sledging down the slopes (me included).Went back one evening when the snow had melted and someone had removed one of the covers on the top which I nearly fell down! Not pleasant.Still, all good fun growing up round there!
