Going....Photographed by me today (July 25 2014) at 11:16. Water is being sprayed on the right to keep the dust down. I'm not sure if I was not standing straight when I took the photo or if the remains of the building were leaning!

Going....The scene at 15:45 today (July 25 2014) in a reduced copy of that from the webcam archive. The webcam has a smudge over Millgarth (the smudge-like thing by the crane is water being sprayed to keep dust down).

The Site is now ready to commence construction works for the Victoria Gate Acades. We hope to get possession of the Milgarth police station, the last remaining part of the site, in the next two months to allow construction of the new carpark to start.

In the information brought up through the http://www.acme.ac/news/ link I was interested to read this (it also has an illustration):-"VICTORIA GATE FAÇADE 29th of October 2013.First glimpse of the mock-up of the brick façade for the Victoria Gate Arcades: the outer brick cladding is a pleated skin responding to the rhythm and articulation of the Blomfield buildings on the Headrow and the adjacent Victoria Quarter."I don't recall hearing of the Blomfield buildings on the Headrow, so I've done a short search. They apparently refer to buildings designed by Sir Reginald Theodore Blomfield (a prolific British architect) and include such as what was the Leeds Permanent Building Society building (now comprising part of The Light complex) and others on The Headrow that seem to include at least the Barclay's Bank at the junction of Vicar Lane (possibly also the other banks there).I wonder what "rhythm and articulation" means.

Blomfield designed Regent Street in London. No comparison really..!In the library somewhere are the original plans for the Headrow and Eastgate are lurking which are far grander than what we ended up with. Shame the opposite side of Headrow to the old Leeds Perm doesn't match, neither does Headrow Centre, and most of the rest of the street!

Leo, Reginald Blomfield was indeed a prolific architect, and a much noted one as well.So much so that when the Imperial War Graves Commission now Commonwealth War Graves Commission were beginning to design and build the many many memorials and cemeteries that were to be built they approached Blomfield to be one of the architects. He designed many of the cemteries in France and Belgium but you will mainly see his work in British cemeteries. It was Blomfield who came up with the design for the "Cross of Sacrifice" which apperas in any cemetery with over 40 war graves, you can find the Cross of Sacrifice which a simple cross embedded with a bronze sword and mounted on an octagonal base.He designed the octagonal base to be able to be manufactured in different sizes for the differing amount of room in the various cemeterys.https://www.flickr.com/photos/cnosni/7861912666/However his most famous piece is the Menin Gate memorial in Ypreshttps://www.flickr.com/photos/cnosni/7861830408 ... tostream/I have also visited a number of his cemterys such as Duisans, near Arrashttps://www.flickr.com/photos/cnosni/7861906730 ... stream/You may note the style of the Menin Gate and Duisans are a similar combination to the Headrow buildings, the stone and brick combination.Blomfield also designed Euston Road Cemetery, where my great uncle Robert Hoolan is buried https://www.flickr.com/photos/cnosni/se ... 190810609/
