just been on wikipedia,typed in' famous people from leeds' and was rewarded with yards of 'em!     have a go!

Corinne Bailey Rae, Angela Griffin, Keith Waterhouse, Rt Hon H H Asquith (Morley really but there you go) how many towns can boast a Prime Minister? Not many because in all there haven't been that many Prime Ministers. Gary Schofield.Ernie Wise was born in East Ardsley which whilst techinally part of Leeds, the post code is most definitely Wakey.Weren't Soft Cell at Leeds band?

I was told that Elizabeth Dawn aka Vera Duckworth was brought up on the Torre estate, please correct me if i am wrong.

She is definitely from Leeds, not sure exactly where, I have heard Halton Moor and Seacroft ...

I believe she was a singer in the clubs in and around Leeds, and then appeared in a Colin Welland TV play called "Leeds United" which was about a strike in the tailoring industry in Leeds. Lynn Perrie (Ivy Tilsley) was also in it and presumably they caught the eye of the producers of Corrie who started their own tailoring business and thus transplanted Vera and Ivy from Leeds to Manchester.

If you have a look at the displays of the pictures outside the Library in Victoria Gardens one of the boards has a load of names of famous Leeds people on them. If I have the patience I would transcribe them but there's loads!
