i worked at arnold g`s on regent street too, i remember the service manager at andersons, he was called "reg" standerline, i did a short stint at andersons, wilsons owned them at the time, we used to pile into the regent a second after clocking out at dinnertime, we sometimes poshed it up at the stag or the plasterers on skinner lane, the plasterers has long gone along with the red bear on the corner of skinner lane and cherry row, good times, once an arnold g wilson boy, always and arnold g wilson boy.

Anyone else frequent there?. This has brought back some very fond memories for me. It was a place I could really feel accepted at back in the mid to late 80's. Myself and friends were there every Saturday afternoon and most nights after leaving home Many a time a few of us used to get in free as we personally knew the owner Arthur. I often think of the people I used to be friends with there back then. Maybe you might have been one of them

Scrumpies and the Frog and Toad in Bradford, with me perm, bullet belt and Twisted Sister T-shirt. Those were the days… You have to be one of the people that converged with us since the Frog used to be a regular haunt for us along with Scrumpies. Can you also remember, Acid reign used to be regulars at Scrumpies before they became famous. And the Blue Angels bikers used to pop in from time to time. And can anyone remember "Mad Mick" and "Big Tony"??

Don't remember either of those two and remember being generally scared of the Blue Angels (and the Satan's Slaves in Bradford) although I never had any trouble from them. The standard Saturday (and often Friday too) night for us (from Yeadon) was down to Bradford to the Vaults, Smithy, Wheatsheaf and Manville and then to the Frog and Toad for an hour or so before getting the last train into Leeds (which was always full of long haired types) and going to Scrumpies before catching the 928 Nightrider ('Fightrider') bus home, unless I got lucky!I take it you were a 'metaller' like me? It was a great feeling then, being part of a group of like minded types.

They were legends in their own right back in late 87 early 88 Clankylad wrote: I take it you were a 'metaller' like me? It was a great feeling then, being part of a group of like minded types. Yep I sure was, and with friends that felt and thought the same and liked the same music it was the only place to be, to be truely accepeted back then. I'm still fairly into metal a bit these days but am really more goth/j-rocker I see a few people listed on friends reunited for Scrumpies but I don't recognise half the names now unfortunately

Soz for the delay in replying, Pete..what years were you at AGW? I was 1970 to 73/4 - Tony Shepherd's apprentice. Mick Harker was one of my best mates there. Jock and Taff ran the stores. Other blokes I remember...Neville, who allus smoked a pipe...Bob Dawes, who rode a Tribsa bike to work - damn! AGH! Senior moment..total blank, regarding other names! From Andersons, Steve Culkin? Great fellow apprentice at AGW's tarining school - killed hissen crashing his motorbike into a bus... I'll remember more for sure, but great that another ex AGW lad is on this forum...
You can take the lad out of Leeds - but you can't take the Leeds out of the lad.

Does anyone remember the name of the pub somewhere on the block where Superdrug is now, near the market? I remember it being there when I was a kid, and someone at school's parents ran it for a while. Could actually be the Superdrug now, or the Indian restaurant on the same block...???And I also remember (vaguely) the Scotsman just near the market. My grandad worked there for quite a while (a long time before I was born). And as for pubs outside the city centre....We used to do the Seacroft/Crossgates/Halton run....The Pathfinder (oh happy times!!)/The Cricketers/Lion and Lamb/Travellers (Crossgates, now the Red Lion)/The Station (but sometimes detour to the Manston first)/Leodis/Brown Cow (occasionally)/Woodman/Travellers (Halton)/and finally if we could stand, the Irwin!!!Also lived in Swarcliffe for a while and used to have friends who worked in The Red Lion at Whinmoor, so drank in there, and also the Staging Post and sometimes the Whinmoor. And after evening classes in the John Smeaton school building, straight to the Cock Beck!!!Loved Thursday nights in the Dog and Gun on York Road as well. Used to be Karaoke and Disco - and living local at the time, tended to meet up with local friends. That pub used to be run by a great couple - and there was never any trouble (don't think anyone would've dared!! lol) - but not the same anymore!!!
