Hi - newbie here...expat Loiner in Scandyland.Surprised nobody has mentioned the old King Charles pub, on Lands Lane (I think the Headrow Shopping Mall was built over that whole area?).Some happy memories form the Charles in my student days (1970's).Cracking thread this - brought back a lot of pleasant/unpleasant memories

You can take the lad out of Leeds - but you can't take the Leeds out of the lad.

These old cottages in Aberford are called 1 and 2 the Former (or late) Rose and Crown - so obviously an old pub. I doubt there's anyone alive who remembers it though.

there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

When it opened it was the pride of Melbourne's estate - in a great location near busy streets and shops and between 2 cinemas. Many of my generation will remember it as a venue for live music. sadly it fell on very ropey times and after one police raid too many was closed down. The Fforde Grene was THE place to see live rock music in the late 70's early 80's.We used to go once or twice a week for a number of years and had the privilege of seeing Iron Maiden,Def Leopard and Motorhead in their pub-rock days. Some artists were slightly on the wane such as Ginger Baker and Eric Bell but still superb musicians.I think the Irish Centre stepped into the breach when the'Fordy' closed.Other music pubs I can remember visiting were the Haddon Hall, the Central, the Peel, the now demolished Beckets, the Newlands and the Staging Post.
