Hi everyone,                 have received e-mail today re: public enquiry proposed Leeds NGT scheme. There is to be a pre-inquiry meeting Tues 4th March at Metropole Hotel,King St,Leeds(10am start) which i guess will be to lay out the procedural issues on the meeting proper.Says no evidence will be heard at this stage and non attendance will not jeopardise your opportunity for personal evidence/statement making. The meeting proper is designated for Tues 29th April at The Regus Office,2 Wellington Place,Leeds commencing at 10.00 am.I realise that quite a few on the site will be receiving similar info but there will be many who won't just yet(save the YEP publishing this in the near future).Cheers.......

As somme said in the above post:"Leeds trolleybus plan given new vote of confidence" in http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/n ... -1-6472795[ Quote: Transport bosses have reaffirmed their commitment to Leeds’s trolleybus plans ahead of the preliminary stage of the public inquiry that will decide the scheme’s fate.West Yorkshire passenger transport authority Metro’s executive board met on Friday for an update on the £250m project.Board members supported a recommendation that they give their continued backing to the New Generation Transport (NGT) scheme – and also took a swipe at alternative plans put forward by First, Leeds’s biggest bus operator. A meeting is being held tomorrow at Leeds’s Metropole Hotel to determine the programme for the public inquiry into trolleybus, which starts on April 29.Metro executive board member Coun Andrew Carter, leader of the opposition Tory group on Leeds City Council, said support for the recommendation on Friday had been unanimous.

They're at it again - http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/n ... 6472795How many times do they need to realise we don't want this white elephant scheme, and it's about time Leeds was like any other large European metropolitan area and had a decent transport system (and not a hotch potch of silly ideas). In the 1930's they planned to put some of the tram network underground. Really we ought to have nearer what Newcastle has, but of course we fall at the first hurdle: We're outside the M25. £500m for a Heathrow rail link no problem, but anything for anywhere else, no chance - or rather delay, change or just get it to escalate pricing until it doesn't happen. The best way to reduce congestion on any road into Leeds is to reduce the traffic by providing a high quality alternative to driving in. If that means tunnelling under Headingley so be it - that might actually be cheaper and create less problem than clearing a swathe through for the sillybus.
I like work. I can watch it for hours.

**However Coun Carter also called on Metro and the council to do more to address the concerns raised by residents opposed to NGT****Coun Carter also branded as “laughable” claims from First that a fleet of state-of-the-art double deckers would deliver the same benefits as trolleybus at a fraction of the cost**.......................................................Yet more patronising and manipulation of facts. It isn't JUST THE LOCAL RESIDENTS opposed to the scheme. It's the vast majority of people throughout the City. As I'm sure the results from the Y.E.P survey will reveal (Unless it's been fiddled-which is highly likely) Your T.Bus was getting a massive thumbs down on last reports.*Voting on the Yorkshire Evening Post website showed 28 per-cent in favour of the scheme and 72 per-cent against it*Remember that Councillor Carter?Councillor Carter and cohorts you are traitors of this City and an absolute disgrace. The only backing you can get is an overwhelming vote of 'no confidence' It is your pig ignorance and arrogance that is laughable. The Council Cartel behind this idiotic idea need a reality check! Resignations are in order!!!

You could improve the traffic flow in Leeds by getting rid of most of the bus lanes. From the north and west, over the last 40 years or so, the capacity has been halved on most routes.

Shock! Scheme planners think scheme is a good idea! Another no news day from the YEP.Did anyone really expect Metro and their cohorts at the Council would do anything other than unreservedly back their own scheme, rather than admit they've got it wrong in the face of massive public opposition?I know times are hard in the local press, but surely even the YEP could have done better than this?

http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/n ... -1-6487690 Quote: The new owner of the Arndale Centre in Headingley has come out in opposition to Leeds’s trolleybus plans.Schroder Real Estate Investment Trust bought the landmark Otley Road shopping centre for just over £16m in January. At the time, Schroder said it saw the centre as a key site to benefit from the proposed £250m trolleybus scheme. Now, though, one of the project’s co-promoters, West Yorkshire passenger transport authority Metro, has confirmed that the company has lodged an objection to the plans.A spokesman for Metro said the authority was “in negotiations” with Schroder but could provide no detail of the reasons for the firm’s apparent change of heart.Schroder was unable to provide a comment on the situation. ....

That's absolutely fantastic news and a real knock back for that ridiculous scheme. First it was First Bus to publicly disrespect the trolleybus, and now the owners of the Arndale Centre join in.It just goes to show that a big business does take note of the strong public opinion against the Follybus. Unlike Councillor Lewis and his Undemocratic Party chums who do what they want, and not what the people want! The Arndale owners aren't daft, they don't want to upset the people of Leeds and loose business. The few Councillors still backing this scheme would do well to remember they too stand to loose public votes. Are there any people left now apart from Councillor Lewis and the Bradford crank still supporting this scheme? The objection from the Arndale owners is worth a thousand single objections. It carries a lot of clout with it and will be taken note of. That story has been leaked to the press on purpose - It hasn't come from Council sources. It isn't something ''Blewitt Lewis And The Council Cohorts'' would want to be publicly known (Didn't they have a few hit songs back in the 1980's?) It just gets worse for Follybus, and we still await the Y.E.P public survey results too.

Andrew Carter is our local councillor in Farsley and we aren't going to benefit in any way from NGT. He's very proactive as a local councillor so I might ask him why he thinks it's such a great idea when it provides his local area with few if any advantages.
