Off the top of my head, and around here, the Irv Inn in Pudsey opened a few months ago, and the owners of the Commercial have taken over the Royal as well as the Fleece in Horsforth. The Clothiers in Yeadon is about to reopen as a Wetherspoon (this may or may not be an improvement, it all depends on the management). In town there's the aforementioned BrewDog and Friends of Ham, Not many for sure, but people are still trying.     Hi simong Wetherspoons took over the Black Bull in Pudsey all I can say is they made a very good job on the inside.I find the meals are good value there are always plenty of customers whatever the time of day.Let us know how they get on after the refit you could be in for a surprise I like to give credit were its due.

Sorry, no piccies Jogon but I can recall going to a wedding reception or two at the Mansion in the late 70s/early 80s and the evening festivities spilling over into the Phoenix Bar.Coincidentally, Mrs JD use to do casual work for Craven Gilpins now and again, mainly functions at Headingley but a few times at the Mansion too.

The Clothiers Arms in Yeadon High Street reopens on May 7th after acquisition and enlargement/refurbishment by Wetherspoon's. They almost always do a superb interior design job, with certain rare exceptions. The Bowling Green in Otley is one of their poorer efforts (after uncharacteristically standing empty for four years) and the Listers in Ilkley certainly one of the very best. One very bad one which sticks in the mind from years ago is the Assembly Rooms in Batley. These of course are only personal impressions.

Doesn't seem to be much sign of life at the Star on Tong Rd?

Similar story (to the Star) at the Golden Fleece in Wortley. Not boarded up but seems deserted. Anyone got any info?

Is that the one between Whingate Junction and Five Lane Ends , painted cream and blue ?? If so its often looked "strangely closed" but with no suggestion that it IS closed for a good few weeks now - very odd indeed.

The lease at the Old Red Lion on York Road is up for sale - lets hope someone decent snaps it up as it's in a prime site and could be a gold mine if they reopened the kitchens.http://www.rightmove.co.uk/commercial-p ... 49654.html

I went in the Clothiers a couple of weeks ago and it's been done quite nicely, although I wasn't a regular in it before so I can't compare. Decent selection of local beers at a good price but it seemed a little too clean and corporate compared to, for example, Market Town Taverns, which are still a chain but have an overall more homely feel.

I went to The Clothiers on Sunday at 7.00pm and was very impressed. The old pub has been enlarged and altered and its been done in what you might call Wetherspoon's recently introduced "spartan" style for some of the places they acquire. There are no carpets anywhere and the decor is pleasing but "minimalist." This makes it rather noisy but pleasant enough nevertheless. There seem to be an enormous number of staff and the service is excellent - it was packed but the meals were ready in double quick time from a most efficient kitchen - outside which is a fascinating computer screen helping staff to attend promptly to deliver the meals quickly and to check on satisfaction soon afterwards. There was a very polite and pleasant lady "bouncer" on the entrance door, and I was very impressed for a first visit.
