'Ear 'ear! Simon lad! BUT we hope they make a better fist of itthan the Shambles that is now Bramley Town St and Centre!Letter in the EP last night on the same subject saying that theymanaged to preserve most of the older stone-built buildings in Horsforth, with the new stuff, so keeping the unique characterof the original community.I think people are more aware nowadays as to what can happento places without prior consultation!Back to Mike's rugs! The old recall machine has kicked in onceagain and I've remembered sitting for my RED CROSS ambulancefirst aid certificate (practical and written!) in that very church building, aged 11 in 1941! Yes, I passed!(Boy's Brigade Exam).TheCasualty Dept at LGI was overwhelmed with heavily bandaged'patients' afterwards! Poor sods couldn't get my dressings and slings off! No mouth to mouth respiration in those days either! You had to apply the Shaeffer method and nearly wrenchthe blokes arms out of their sockets!LOL!Don't you think Mike will be 'bought off' with a tidy cheque, irrespective of the state of the building?Arry

Quote: Please help me with the small Chapel or whatever it was on the left hand side after you pass Seacroft Grange going up towards the Windmill - I have seen it and now can't find it? You're not thinking of Seacroft Methodist Church are you? Sort of set back from the road but you could see it through a gap in the rows of houses and stuff in front?Used to be home to the 24th Leeds Boys/Girls Brigade. Still there as far as i know...Does anyone remember what that old wooden church on Brudenell Road was called? It was closed as a church when i was up that way cira late 80s, but was hired out... this completely barking israeli guy used to teach kyushinkai karate there. They pulled it down a few years back and put up a mosque in it's place

Hi all,I'm currently working on a project to compare and contrast 29 buildings over 25 years of history. The buildings were originally listed in a Save Britain's Heritage report in 1986 and I am basically following up and sharing photos and details of what happened next for these buildings. However I have one building I can't track down the location of - the former Meadow Lane Methodist Chapel. I've only managed to find two photos of it - one shown in the 1986 report and one on Leodis from an odd angle. Neither photo gives a good placement for it. I think it was more commonly referred to as the Wesleyan Chapel and probably came down when ASDA house was built - can anyone help confirming this and give me a better understanding of where the building stood?Much appreciated,Alex

Hi Exploringleeds. The1906 Godfrey South Leeds Map ( 218.06 ) shows this chapel as being on the west side of Meadow Lane at it's north end, just south of the still extant Red Lion pub. There was a separate Sunday School building between the pub and the chapel. Hopefully one of our contributors - with abilities I have not yet acquired! - will post the appropriate section of the map for you.

They pulled it down a few years back and put up a mosque in it's place I knew it as a carpet warehouse. It was an example of an early 20th century corrugated iron prefab church, early flatpack, usually bought and and erected by the congregation. It had pretty much rotted away before demolition. IIRC some really good examples have been preserved in wales. They are usually methodist churches.
