He used to keep pigeons and he proceeded to tell me how he and his mates used to climb up under the bridge and catch pigeons underneath!he then told me about this very mill and how they used to go there.Amazing eh?     Nice one... You'll have no probs there.. Oh yes that swing bridge... There's been quite a few debates about that on here.. Some people can't figure out how it worked if i remember.. It was HUGE!

It would be nice to think that Phill's efforts and the comments on here have stirred someone into action - even if out of the embarrassment they should feel!

I don't know how long the sign has been up, but I noticed this morning that there is a for sale (at auction) sign on York Road Library. This is the link to the agents website http://www.eddisons.com/pages/auctionca ... n=24&Page=

Looks like the developer has has to consider what he's doing here. I wonder if anyone else will take it on at that price?I somehow think this place will just stand empty until it goes the same way as the White Cloth hall and then needs to be demolished. If this place isn't on the 'buildings at risk' register then it needs to be. Remedial work to make the roof water tight will take place then. I did a picture, history of the library if anyone hasn't seen it herehttp://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=265602590&blogID=328798330

Ultimate fate is thus, often as you suggest.

Much as I'd love to see it preserved, I think the building is ultimately doomed. I think it was doomed from the minute the council pulled the pool down and moved the library out. It's in a poor state now and is only going to deteriorate further. It's in a poor position a pavements width from one of the busiest roads in Leeds with no parking to speak of. And (with no offence to the many good people of the area) it's surrounded by enough ne'er do-wells and scuffers to make security an ongoing nightmare.£350,000 just to buy it (plus fees) then goodness knows how much getting it refurbished. Is it listed (I'm guessing maybe not given recent events)? If it is though costs skyrocket again. It's a crying shame, but I genuinely can't see what else will happen to it.
