Build a follybus no-one wants, hand it to Worst to run (well, they are doing a marvelous job with the ordinary buses, aren't they?) and then base the vehicle design on something that is 40-odd years old. Although they do get a single bonus point for the authentic lack of opening windows.Give me strength...

"He shoots, he scores. It's an own goal."So electric buses aren't good enough. Loud coughing at the back. And built locally. More uncomfortable shuffling in their seats.Just goes to show, there is the smell of corruption somewhere, allegedly.http://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/at- ... -1-5713028

This will never be fully achieved while manufacturers and operators busy themselves with expensive zany marketing liveries and empty campaigns instead of realistically providing tangibly the service (product in ghastly modern "speak") which the passengers ("customers" also in ghastly modern "speak") require. The "ELECTRIC" buses in the York proposals, I imagine but could be wrong, will be the diesel hybrid/electric ones which we already see in Leeds with First (22 vehicles) and Arriva (12 vehicles).Their huge advantage over trolleybuses is that they require no unsightly infrastructure whatsoever. Also in their favour is that emissions are undoubtedly cleaner, but until and if they become very widespread there initial cost is very high indeed.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.
