Where and What No. 7

Ok I'll start with the last first - wakefields coat of arms (above)is a fleur-de-lys - Flares coat of arms 7 has a horn on it - the badge of Ripon (it also has the name 'Ripon' on it which is a bit of a clue, although it's hard to make out. So number 7 IS Ripon not Wakefield

To number 6 -This is part of Dewsbury's coat of arms - best I could find on the net - owls are the main feature!

Whereas this is Huddersfield - design and motto as on Flares coat of arms Number 6So Number 6 IS Huddersfield not Dewsbury.

Finally - coat of arms number1. As I say i'm not totally convinced about this - but I believe it to be Doncaster.This is Pontefract's which at a glance looks similar - however there's a problem with the motto - Flares number 1 has 'Son Comfort et Liesse' not Pontefracts motto of 'Post Mortem Patris pro Filio'I believe the first motto is associated with Doncaster but I haven't been able to find definitive proof as yet.. watch this space.So the jury's out on Number 1

There's a blue plaque on infirmary street on the building between the old Yorkshire bank and the old Post Office that says the cloth hall was there. (The building is called Cloth Hall Court!)

Understand you throwing your toys out of the cot Drapesy lad.! But don't take issue with me. Personally I don't give a toss. But on page 128 of the book by author Ivan Broadhead, called just 'Leeds', theres a coloured picture of the building, and a resume of its construction/use etc. I only assume his research would be in far deeper detail than we users of these threads. Certainly before taking it all off to a publisher. So please,......rail at him.!

It's always best to go with what you KNOW as apposed to what you are TOLD to be the truth! folks that write books can make mistakes, lets not fall out over it eh???
