The english language is quite complicated really.I was taught that "E" is more often than not, silent. In that case, maybe Harewood should be pronouced Harwood?Berkshire isn't pronounced Burkshire but Barkshire.Berkley is pronounced BarclayMainwaring...Mannering etc etcI love our language, it's such a mish-mash!

My flickr pictures are herehttp://www.flickr.com/photos/phill_dvsn/Because lunacy was the influence for an album. It goes without saying that an album about lunacy will breed a lunatics obsessions with an album - The Dark side of the moon!

There are plenty who do not though. Most of those who do not attended rugby matches back in the day when that particular suburb of Leeds boasted a union team.Anyone at those matches will have heard countless calls to arms from supporters which sounded like their team were in fact Round Hay, or even Hound Hay from some of them.

These two names are a little Hyacinth Bucket (Bouquet) I think ; Featherstonehaugh (Fanshaw) and Cholmondeley (Chumley).Mrs JDs brother lives in Derby (Darby). On the Leeds theme though we have Cock Beck but Cockburn school. It's likely also that someone from Dodworth (Doderth) would refer to Leeds as Lee-ads. It's a wonder to me that so many foreigners can learn our language when to so many English folk it's still a struggle!JD
