Captions to some of the tram photos which come up when you use "Harehills" as the search term say the photo was taken on Harehills Lane. One is correctly labelled "approaching Harehills Lane" but it doesn't say on which road. In fact I think most of them are on the reserved track on York Road - approaching Harehills Lane. I sent this in as a correction to Crich , along with a lot of other comments and corrections, a few years ago but the database has not been revised. There is a list of |Leeds tram routes and even more tram photos on http://dewi.ca/trains/leeds/index.htmlApologies if I have mentioned this link before but it is, imho a good source of Leeds photos .
It used to be said that the statue of the Black Prince had been placed in City Square , near the station, pointing South to tell all the southerners who've just got off the train to b****r off back down south!

I am building a model railway layout and have bought stuff from Hattons in Liverpool. Whenever I see anything related to Leeds in their catalogue I get it. Thus I have a Bedford Van, the Q bus, the Ledgard Bus and the Feltham Tram with the Crossgates destination. I lived in Crossgates for just over 20 years.I checked the Dewi page some time ago and there is a picture of a Feltham tram at Crossgates terminus and, passing behind the tram, is a man who I swear is my father. My children agree with me, but my sisters would not commit themselves.Does anyone have memories of some very old double deck open fronted trams (the portion over the driver was open) which only seemed to come out in the middle of winter when the weather was freezing? I am talking of the war years (1943-45).

They were indeed Trojan and they were the "bees knees" in style and comfort. There were only three, 272/3/4, and they spent their whole careers from new at Headingley Depot.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

But I don't think it's any of these. Won't swear by this (but I will check it out) but I seem to remember a friend of mine called Alan Ball telling me he supplied that print on the wall in the Rovers. If any of you guys attend model railway shows Alan is the guy who is at shows like Leeds York and Wakefield with a large selection of transport pictures - not only railways but also trams, buses, narrow boats, ships etc etc. Will check with him and if he did I will find out what the print is of.

My memories of the Leeds trams just reach back to the days before they were red.

But there are quite a few other tram pictures. Magnificent pictures Trojan. I have a great deal of admiration for the skill and the "feel" of these artists. In their own different way these pictures capture the atmosphere of places and times at least as well as scientifically accurate clear photographs. "Twilight of the Trams" is a partcularly well loved masterpiece among the local tram fraternity. I've been posting about it on another forum. Hi Trojan the picture on the wall in the Rovers is by someone called Don Breckon dated 79 i have the same picture in my lounge it looks like Manchester to me.One of the trams has 30 and East Hill as the destination.
